As a Registered Social Worker, Karen has been in practice for the past 24 years. Her experience includes 16 years of working at a children’s mental health centre in Toronto, specializing in adolescent mental health and developmental disability.

Many of Karen’s cases deal with highly sensitive matters and at any, and all, phases of the business, her clients need to be provided the utmost convenience and care. SPUR OF THE MOMENT

Karen Guthrie-Douse is a Registered Social Worker specializing in custody and access, separation and divorce, parenting, and blended family issues. Initially, Karen started off at Markham Executive Suites (MES) where she held a virtual office combination similar to Skytek’s Mail Plan and hourly office rentals. Although running a business at MES wasn’t exactly how she wanted it:

“They were always mixing up my bill. Because of the nature of my business, I work with a lot of lawyers and I’d get bills and invoices at the end of the month for other people’s office rentals. I’d be wasting my time proving that the rental hours were not mine.”

She goes on to further mention:

“It was the smaller details that added up. I had to pay extra in advance for coffee and tea for my clients. I needed a place where people felt comfortable and relaxed when they are talking about something very personal to them. I inevitably left MES. THE DISCOVERY

One of her biggest considerations when transitioning office locations was to buy an office space rather than rent hourly. Granted, the nature of her business was highly dependent on client needs and her law partners, one of which currently occupies a Skytek Executive Suite, she needed flexibility over anything else. Her time is equally spent at a home office and the office of her law partners and as such, continuing with a Virtual Office was the best solution.

I don’t want to step out of a meeting just to photocopy something, my virtual assistant helps tremendously with the administrative. ABOUT KAREN GUTHRIE-DOUSE, MSW, RSW

Karen is a Registered Social Worker, in practice for the past 24 years. Her experience includes 16 years of working at a children’s mental health centre in Toronto, specializing in adolescent mental health and developmental disability. Karen has been a clinical panel member of the Office of the Children’s Lawyer since 2004, where she completes Section 112 reports, and assists OCL panel lawyers with their files. She has testified in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Family Court Division.

Karen has operated a private practice for 15 years, in which she specializes in custody and access, separation and divorce, parenting, and blended family issues. She provides parent coaching, par-enting plans and consultation to families and professionals. Karen is a Parent Coach and Child Specialist within the Collaborative Practice model, and is able to assist clients to resolve their separation and divorce issues in a respectful manner.
